Conference highlights – Andy Hartwell

As part of the conference it was important to have a contribution from a creative entrepreneur and Andy gave us a very good insight into the developments of his business Substrakt. Andy is an alumni of BCU’s MA in Media and Creative Enterprise and set up his business just before he joined the MA programme. Delegates where particularly interested in Andy’s story, including the challenges and opportunities he has faced. Here are some comments from Francis Brown (PhD Coventry University) and Gillian Easson (NESTA).

Conference highlights – Fabrice Hyber

‘Les Realisateurs’ an experiment between business, art and education

Fabrice Hyber presented his educational experiment, a project supported by the EU funded ECCE project.  Fabrice is an established french artist originally from Nantes and he is currently working with the Nantes School of Fine Art on a project entitled ‘Les Realisateurs’, the producers. The project is an experiment in education as it brings together the art school and the local business and management school who will contribute to his unique project – developing relationships between artists and local businesses.

This project very much reflects Fabrice’s work which has been about developing partnerships and collaborations with business. To get this project going, Fabrice is using his own networks and contacts in business, local friends who collect art and want to engage with artists but who dont have the resources to  invest in an experimental project. The artist will get the opportunity to work with a business, create some work and perhaps make an impact on the culture of the business. This is not about businesses commissioning new works but about the relationship and potential collaboration between two very different disciplines. The outcome is an experiment and who knows where it might lead?
